Standard script debugging is not possible. You can record data in a log or (in some cases) in informatory messages displayed on the page.

It is comfortable to create a button and debug the script in it (if it is possible) and than move it to the intended place. The script on button can be simply launched (by clicking on it) and supporting information can be displayed in the informatory message on the page.
